- OBSERVE:
Before signaling your intentions to execute a manoeuvre (turn, change lanes, slow down, etc.), obtain clutch control, then look in the mirrors to see if it is safe behind and alongside the vehicle.
- CHECK BLIND SPOT:
Look over your shoulder, turning your head, to check behind you where the mirrors don't show the full situation, to make sure there's no vehicle not visible in the mirrors.
- SIGNAL:
If it is safe, signal your intention, using indicators (before turning) or brake lights (for slowing down) as appropriate.
- CHECK IN THE MIRRORS AGAIN:
Check again that it is still safe behind and alongside the vehicle before making the change.
- BRAKES:
Use the brakes to reduce speed if necessary, and if intending to stop, allow for a longer stopping distance in wet conditions or when carrying a load (including passengers).
- GEARS:
Select the correct gear if you intend accelerating.
- CHECK THE BLIND SPOT:
If you intend changing lane or direction, check the blind spot again to make sure it's still safe to do so.
- STEER:
If still safe, turn in the direction you've indicated.
- ACCELERATE:
Increase speed as necessary and check in the mirrors to ensure that it is safe behind you..
- CANCEL INDICATORS:
Ensure that the direction indicators are canceled after completing the manoeuvre.
- REPEAT THE PROCEDURE:
If you intend returning to your original lane, repeat the procedure above. |
